What plastics can become?
As landfills continue to grow, we need to find a solution and recycle. Plastics can often be confusing because there are so many different types of plastics on the market, and these different types cannot be mixed when they are recycled into new products. In addition, some products made from the same type of plastic cannot be recycled together because they are produced by different processes.
Plastics bags and wraps (LDPE)
We use way to much plastic bags to carry home groceries.
However, when they are recycled plastic bags and wraps can made into plastic lumber that is used to make park benches, backyard decks and fences – even playground equipment. They also can be recycled into new plastic bags – and then recycled again.
Plastic bottles are a big problem nowadays. However, when plastic bottles are recycled they can be made into lots of things: t-shirts, sweaters, fleece jackets, insulation for jackets and sleeping bags, carpeting and more bottles.
For example, it takes about 10 bottles to make enough plastic fiber to make a cool new t-shirt and 63 bottles to make a sweater.
Plastic milk and juice bottles (HDPE)
Did you know today’s milk jug could be tomorrow’s kitchen cutting board. These bottles can be recycled into plastic lumber, play sets or new bottles.
